In 1991, following the reforms to the Rural Credit Law, the Law of Credit Institutions and Workers’ Banks was created. The Workers’ Banks were established under the supervision of the Federation of Credit Institutions and Workers’ Banks of the Fedecredito System. On June 8 of the same year, the Banco Izalqueño de los Trabajadores, S.C. de R.L. de C.V. was founded. The Bank’s Articles of Incorporation were signed with an initial capital of $4,796.58 USD, corresponding to 4,197 shares and 68 founding members. The Bank opened its doors to the public on October 7, 1991.
Since the Bank did not have sufficient capital to acquire its own facilities, it began operations in a location attached to the Izalco Credit Union, always maintaining the vision of embarking on new paths for progress and development.
To expand operations, get closer to our customers, and serve new potential markets, studies were conducted, resulting in the opening of an agency in the city of Santa Tecla, at the Belén Shopping Center, on October 5, 1994.
Continuing to support our customers in meeting their financial needs, and thanks to their loyalty, we acquired a property on Avenida Morazán in Izalco and completed the construction of our current building. It was inaugurated for the public on February 14, 1998. Since then, the Bank has been able to better serve its customers and expand its business.
In 2001, the Bank began the regulatory process to obtain supervision from the Superintendency of the Financial System.
Thanks to our clients’ preference, the Santa Tecla Agency continued to grow, and the need for new facilities became evident to maintain quality service. We acquired a plot of land at 3rd Av. Norte and 1st C. Poniente, and inaugurated a spacious new building on February 28, 2003.
After three years in the process with the Superintendency of the Financial System, the Bank obtained authorization to raise public funds on November 17, 2004.
With the goal of always serving our customers and reaching new markets, a new branch was opened in the Metrocentro shopping center in Sonsonate on April 21, 2008.
Due to growing demand and our desire to serve clients in the best possible way, we opened our fourth branch in the Metrocentro shopping center in Santa Ana on April 1, 2019.
It has been 30 years since the Bank’s Deed of Incorporation was signed—a successful journey that, thanks to the support of our clients, partners, and employees, has seen the institution grow and thrive. Today, Banco Izalqueño is a young, healthy institution supervised by the Superintendency of the Financial System, solvent, with sustainable growth and profitability, and continues to work with the same strength as our volcano—because at Banco Izalqueño, we are “Proud of Our People.”
